TOPIC: Stock in warehousing or supply chain

ISSUE: 2

REVISION DATE: 27.1.98

PREVIOUS REVISION DATE: 4.7.95

BACKGROUND: There is considerable confusion regarding the status of stock in a warehouse, and in the supply chain.

PROBLEM: Should such stock have to comply with the EMC regulations from 1.1.96?

GUIDELINES:

  1. Products that was manufactured inside the EU and placed into stock within the manufacturer's premises before 1.1.96 and shipped onto a customer or another link in the supply chain (eg. distributor/retailer) on or after 1.1.96 did not need to comply.
  2. Products that are manufactured outside the EU and that were shipped into the EU prior to 31.12.95, and then shipped on to a customer or another link in the supply chain (eg. distributor/retailer) on or after 1.1.96 did not need to comply.
  3. All products imported or manufactured on or after 1.1.96 must comply.

In all such instances manufacturers/importers would be advised to ensure the traceability of such stock, and to discuss the situation with their trading standards home authority.
