TOPIC: Lighting systems

ISSUE: 2

REVISION DATE: 27.1.98

PREVIOUS REVISION DATE: 11.11.94

BACKGROUND: A manufacturer of lighting systems wishes to install a dimmer control within a fluorescent lighting (> 10 fluorescent lights) system. Each individual item eg dimmer, electronic ballast, luminaire etc, meets the requirements of its own standard i.e. EN55014, EN55015, and EN50082-1.

PROBLEM: Does the manufacturer need to demonstrate that the lighting system meets the requirements of the EMC Directive?

GUIDELINES: If the manufacturer is selling a system then he must claim compliance for the system. Claims for the individual elements will not be enough. This does not restrict him to the route he uses to claim compliance.
