TOPIC: Cabling Systems

ISSUE: 2

REVISION DATE: 27.1.98

PREVIOUS REVISION DATE: 11.11.94

BACKGROUND: When immunity testing an ethernet system, the ethernet just times out (crashes). The ethernet supplier claims that their equipment does not need to comply with the EMC Directive.

PROBLEM: Do cabling systems need to comply with the EMC Directive?

GUIDELINES: Passive cabling does not need to comply with the EMC Directive, although the quality, installation, and termination of cabling can significantly affect the compliance of the system of which it is a part.

However, cabling systems which include active components such as ethernet boards, must comply and be CE marked when supplied.
