TOPIC: After market products for motor vehicles.

BACKGROUND: Should after-market products fitted to motor vehicles meet the emissions and immunity levels specified in 95/54/EC?

PROBLEM: This directive does not cover the EMC areas of transients, ESD and others for these products.

GUIDELINES: After-market products intended for fitting to vehicles identified in directive 70/156/EEC as amended by 92/53/EEC shall comply with 95/54/EC. This requirement is that until 1/10/2002 they have the choice of complying with either Type Approval, or, complying with all relevant national requirements. National requirements will vary from country to country, and manufacturers are advised to make their own enquiries. These National requirements may impose a requirement to comply with 89/336/EEC.
